REVISITED | ELF Lip Stain in Red Carpet Review

June 29, 2012

How many lipsticks have you got? I got a number of lippies however I am a sucker of "Miss Lipstick Right Now" which means I often use only those which impress me until I am able to find a new discovery, lol.

My friend Sarah asked me to review more lipsticks because she is one hell of a lippie girl. I used to remember her owning these lippies from Revlon! She has a very good taste in lipsticks which I really admire.

As for me, I looooooove matte lipsticks! I like the kind-of vintage-y feeling whenever I wear one! So today, I am going to tell you all about my experience on another ELF product I own for quite sometime now. I am talking about the ELF Lip Stain in Red Carpet (Php 249.75 in stores).

The ELF Lip Stain in Red Carpet is a perfect red shade for me, IMHO. It is a kind of red which is opaque and flatters my skin tone. This comes in a dual end packaging the other half has the gloss in it. Now as why I bought the brightest shade (of red) isn’t a mystery anymore. Afterall. I wouldn’t call my blog red lippie if I don’t like red lipsticks!

Product Description:

Achieve full coverage that lasts for hours with this long-wear formula.
Enjoy silky matte color or layer on the moisturizing clear gloss for a shiny look.
With key Vitamins A and E your lips stay smooth all day long.

Directions: Apply the stain to bare lips and allow to dry for a matte finish. Apply the clear gloss on top of the color for a shiny effect and to moisturize the lips if needed. Remove with any oil or cream-based makeup remover or cleanser.

Me Says:
  •  Price is affordable
  • The Red Carpet shade flatters my skin tone
  • Very matte, stays on for hours
  • Cream-type lipstick which goes on matte after a while (reminds me of NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream which I reviewed here)
  • Gloss comes with the product (but I am not a fan of gloss as you all know)
  • Available in most SM, Landmark stores

Dislikes:
  • For dry lips, better stay away from this product as this would dry your lips all the more
  • Not too many shades available
  • The packaging may not look sturdy (just handle with care, okay ladies?)

 Overall Verdict:

4.5 Lipsticks

The trick is NOT to apply the gloss (well, that’s just me) that comes with it,  if you like your lips to stay matte and want to keep the color in your lips for a longer time. If you start using the gloss, then you will start feeling your lips sticky and staying power will be a blah! Also, you might wanna make sure to exfoliate your lips prior to application for a cleaner and seamless look in your lips.

The Red Carpet is a pretty color and many co-workers noticed my bright red lips. One officemate even tried this product on her lips after asking me what is the brand of lipstick I wore that day! After trying on her own lips, she seems to be satisfied as well.

I really like ELF products though I must admit that it’s a hit or miss for me sometimes. But I cannot deny the fact that this brand is sooooo reasonably priced and deliver results to a “T”.

In fact, I even had to ask my friend who is now based in the US to buy me some ELF products last December and have them shipped to me! Best new year gift I had in terms of cosmetics!

Buy Again: Yes, Yes, Yes!

Thank you ELF! I am too excited to try another shade which will be my “lips but better” shade: the FASHIONISTA!

Love,
Miss J

  1. The shade looks fierce. I likewise do not like topping lipsticks with gloss. May I ask how many hours max does this lippie stay? =)

  2. Hello Eunice-- staying power is 5-6 hours without the gloss. It can even stay more than that if you use a lip primer (I usually apply my NYX face primer in my lips, lol) then apply this lip stain. But this is very drying so best to apply a a little amount of lip balm before putting this on.
