REVISITED | Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation SPF 15/ PA++ Review
November 26, 2015
In continuation of my foundation series, I'd like to talk about my true-blood Japanese foundation- the Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation SPF 15/ PA++. If you follow me, you should know that I think Japanese products are one of the best in the world. Everything I own made in Japan just delivers.
Said to be a high-definition, long-wearing mineral foundation, it is formulated with minerals from the deep waters of Bretagne and botanical emollients and extracts, this skin-conditioning foundation smoothes and covers imperfections while feeling weightless and comfortable. This product is also said to be cruelty free and does not contain artificial colors, fragrance, or mineral oil.
I read too that it is formulated without the following:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Phthalates
I purchased this foundation at Beauty Bar only to discover that it was too light for me. I mistakenly chose the shade PK-0 which has pink undertones on it. If you are on the yellow tone, be sure to get the OC shades. During that time, it was discounted by 20%- 30% as far as I can remember. I heard that Koh Gen Do has since reformulated this foundation. It wasn't that cheap too, so me being frustrated, I ditched using it but would try to use some as a spot-on concealer from time to time.
I rediscovered this baby while sorting all makeups as I wanted to give away some to our househelper at home. Thinking I got lighter since I didn't have any beach trips lately, I was elated to see that it has somehow matched me. Okay- maybe not right after application, but after it sets (around 15 minutes), I saw how flawlessly looking my makeup was.
The finish is dewy- never matte. But that's the beauty of this foundation, it keeps your face hydrated, tricking your skin not to produce more oil. It does photograph nicely. The SPF15 is a plus. Also, it does not feel like a mask so and 100% lightweight for me.

The coverage is light to medium, don't expect that is shall cover all your imperfections. For its price (around Php 2700+), I know that this is pretty pricey and not everyone can afford. But if you are thinking of splurging, this is definitely a must have. I heard lots of celebrities and famous Hollywood actresses are hooked on this foundation.
Overall Verdict:
4.5 Lipsticks
Have you tried any Koh Gen Do products? How was it?
