REVISITED | Glambox' Basic Airbrush Class

April 24, 2013

I am always curious about airbrush makeup. Coming from my 2012 bucket list, this item remained unchecked for a long time. But few weeks ago, I finally had the chance to untick this off from my list. I attended GlamboxBasic Airbrush course, yay!

Now let’s define Airbrush makeup per se. According to Wikipedia : Airbrush makeup is makeup sprayed onto the skin using an airbrush instead of being applied with sponges, brushes, fingers, or other methods. It is popular in filmtheater, and sunless tanning; although systems designed for personal cosmetic use in the home are also available. Airbrush systems designed for these purpose are usually smaller and work at a lower pressures than systems used in industrial applications. The technique was first used in 1925 on actors in Ben Hurand has since grown in popularity in the entertainment business.

On the day of the class, I was informed that there would only be 5 students and I was like, “Oh good, at least we don’t get too crowded.” When I arrived at the studio, a tall and gorgeous lady walked up to me and introduced herself after recognizing her in one of those Glambox videos I watched on Youtube. Yes, it was Ms, Valerie Tan who can be a dead ringer for Toni Gonzaga, a famous Filipino actress. I just thought they can pass off as twins!  I was then introduced to our teacher, Ms. Bunny (Vanessa) Caravajal- Lo  who is not only pretty but very bubbly too. She was smiling the whole time during class.

The first hour was mainly introduction of the airbrush equipment and how it actually works. Then she talked about foundation, blush, contouring and the tips and tricks during airbrushing! She also made sure we get to touch the airbrush guns before we started practicing.

Then later on, we got to work on bond papers pasted on these huge mirrors! I was feeling anxious and uneasy holding this thingamajig on my hand but later on, just like any makeup enthusiast, you get a better way to handle it. We had lots of practice on these bond papers with different shapes on them.

Then came the actual application. We were told we’re to apply airbrush makeup on to ourselves but when Ms. Bunny asked for a volunteer for a demo she planned to do before we start doing our own makeup, I knew I just had to raise my hand, haha! Time to shine, Miss J!

And I must say, I really liked the finish of an airbrushed makeup! It made my face looked flawless, my huge pores were nowhere to see and felt like an instant celebrity. Wooohoooo!
