OILY SKIN | HOW I TRICKED MY SKIN NOT TO PRODUCE MORE OIL

Combination to oily skin?!?! You are not alone! Stats say that a lot of women are suffering from this dilemma. I am no exception! I must have inherited some of my dad's oil glands, lol. But my siblings have normal skin so what's up with me???!!??

But over the years, I became thankful for having oily to combination skin. Studies show that people who have oily skin tend to outdo the different signs of aging. Women with dry skin "age" faster than oily-skinned individuals. So good news for all ladies who share the same skin story as I do!

For the longest time, I tried a number of products made to look my skin matte and shine free! But I noticed that my face even produced more oil than usual. Why oh why?!?

It's a myth that people with oily skin don't need to moisturize -- dermatologists recommend you add a moisturizer to your daily skin care routine to help combat the harsh drying effects of these oil-busting products.

So here's what I did to trick my skin not to produce more oil:

Do not wash your face too often

This one is tricky. Washing your face too often can send signals to your oil glands that your face needs more moisture resulting to a rebound effect.
The result? Your face tends to get oilier to compensate for the loss of moisture.
Should you need to wash your face often make sure to replace moisture by applying moisturizer after.

Moisturize

After washing my face and apply some toner, I use lightweight, oil-free moisturizer before applying makeup. Personally, I love using Celeteque moisturizer.
I wait for about 5 minutes before I start applying my foundie or tinted moisturizer. This allows the moisture to be absorbed by my skin fully before any additional products are piled in my face.

Exfoliate

This is to remove dead skin cells caused by sebum and give way to fresh or new cells.
Exfoliate at least 1-2 times a week and you'll see the difference.
I personally use a facial sponge given to me by a friend and it does really make a difference when we exfoliate because our skin gets smoother as we go along.
I personally use Eskinol Papaya Facial Scrub to wash those dead skin cells away.

Use a primer base before applying foundation

Primers are designed to make your skin softer and shine-free during foundation application.
They make foundations glide smoothly during application and keep your makeup intact.
I personally like Loreal Magique Base and now I am using Majolica Majorca Skin Lingering Pore Cover which I like to mix with my foundation

Use oil-free makeup products

Oily skin doesn't need additional oils. So look for the following terms in makeup products you intend to use: comedogenic, oil-free, lightweight.
For eyeshadow or blushes, you can opt for waterproof formula to keep them in place when you wear them.
I am currently using Snoe BB Cream and CoverGirl Fresh Complexion Pocket Powder Foundation to set my foundation or tinted moisturizer.

Use Oil-blotters/ film for easy touch ups

They are handy and you can touch up anytime without ruining your makeup rather than piling up more makeup in your face.
I personally use Johnson's Clean & Clear Oil blotting sheets

I hope you can find time to be friends with your oily skin too. We are all unique in every way so don't be discouraged if you don't have a perfect clear skin like most models do. I always believe that we should never seek validation from others. Instead, we should seek validation from within ourselves.

Remember that if we don't love ourselves (yes- even our shiny, oily faces), no one will!

Love,

Miss J
